Stainless Works mufflers are the best flowing highest performance mufflers available. At a recent dyno test at Wheel to Wheel in Michigan, our 3” 67-69 Camaro Exhaust system made more torque and horsepower across the RPM range than open headers. According to Mark Stielow, builder of the 1996 Hot Rod of the Year and contributor to both Popular Hot Rodding and Chevy high Performance, “Stainless Works Mufflers are awesome. They are all 304 stainless; tig welded, and perform better than open headers. Their exhaust systems also have a lifetime guarantee which shows that they believe in what they sell. I haven’t found a better sounding, better flowing muffler yet.”
Why are Stainless Works Sidepipes better?
We pride ourselves on building products that allow our customers to drive and enjoy their cars. We developed Camaro chambered exhaust and Corvette sidepipes that use our exclusive core that makes them quieter than the originals but flow better! We have never had a set returned because they are too quiet or “don’t sound quite right”. When we do installations in our shop customers comment on how great they sound, with a mellow rumble. While we are proud of this accomplishment, there are a few other differences between our product and the competition:
• We use only 304 Everlast Stainless for our stainless sidepipes. We make the shells, tips, cores and packing entirely from 304 Everlast Stainless. Our Stainless Sidepipes have a limited lifetime warranty.
• Our exclusive core design is quieter and flows better than the competition.
• Our headpipes are the only ones that are CNC mandrel bent. They flow better than pressure bent pipes and fit better.
• We laser cut our hangers for a perfect fit every time.
Listen to the following quote from pages 161 and 162 of Don Sherman’s book CORVETTE 427, Practical Restoration of a ’67 Roadster. Note in the text that we did not pay him for this endorsement. In fact, he purchased the pipes from one of our distributors!! We did not even know this was printed until one of our customers told us about the book!
“… I popped the $750 necessary to buy a reproduction set of pipes (made by Allen’s Stainless Steel Exhaust) from Corvette Central. When they were no quieter than the originals-which were probably fried by years of corrosion-I called Scott Kohn (from Corvette Central) for a remedy. Fortunately, Scott had a viable suggestion. He’d recently found a new supplier and offered to trade my slightly used set of stainless replacement pipes for a set from a second source.
Using a sound meter kept on hand for car reviews, I measured noise levels in 500 rpm steps with the car in my driveway and the meter placed nine feet to the side. Then I swapped to the new pipes (according to Scott, they’re made by Stainless Works in Chagrin Falls, Ohio), and repeated the procedure. I was amazed at the difference: the new pipes were, on average, nine decibels quieter throughout the RPM range. And their shape at the inlet end is smoother that the pipes that I removed…..
Thanks to the more sociable exhaust system, windowpanes no longer rattle when I start my Corvette in the garage. The idle rumble is below the small animal pain threshold, and it’s now possible to carry on a conversation with the shifter in fourth gear at cruising speeds. So whenever you encounter a rough patch in your Corvette restoration project, keep in mind that this is a very important principal: The right parts make a world of difference.”
There are also a lot of old wives’ tales and misinformation on Stainless Exhaust systems-they grow 2” when heated, they will crack, they don’t fit right, etc. Consider the following:
• Virtually every new car built since 1995 has a 409 SS exhaust system. We use an even higher grade of SS (304) because we want your exhaust systems to last the life of your car- the OEM’s only need it to last past the EPA warranty period. If aluminized steel itself were sufficient, why wouldn’t every new car have it? After all, it is less expensive! (Maybe there is some truth in the old saying “you get what you pay for!”).
• We have over $2,000,000 in capital equipment to CNC mandrel bend, CNC laser cut, digitize and inspect parts that we build. Ask any other exhaust company if they do their own tube bending, laser cutting, and fab work in house. You will be surprised- most do not!
• Our stainless systems have a lifetime warranty- NO ONE ELSE OFFERS THIS!
